RAISA Minority Workshops
In 2024, RAISA team implemented minority workshops in collaboration with Minority Affair Institute (MAI). RAISA partners organizations such as Thet Youth Development Organization, Minority Education and Democracy Organization, Akha Ethnic Union, Spring Revolution Interfaith Network, Arakan Gender and Development Society and other Rohingya civil society organizations joined these workshops and shared their insights in the training. Workshops focused on minority rights, social cohesion and transitional justice. The Minority Affair Institute director facilitated discussion on minority rights and RAISA trainer facilitated social cohesion and opportunity for building social cohesion during the transition period. The Asia Justice and Rights organization team facilitated transitional justice concepts and principles for one day.
Each workshop is implemented for 3 to 4 days, totaling 21 hours of discussion and presentation. Overall, 60 participants from civil society organizations and ethnic minority communities attended these workshops and engaged in dialogue between ethnic groups. Participants were able to exchange their view on critical issues during the revolution period such as religious freedom, ethnic representation and federalism.
One participant from Kayin state said, “We always saw and heard about Rohingya but I never had a Rohingya friend. During this workshop when I was listening to their stories and the discrimination that they faced, I felt so sorry and I wished I knew them since 2016. And I wish that we could do this training in person as I still want to learn Rohingya life experience from Rohingya participants”.
